The Trane LIN0001 is a container of lithium nitrate, a chemical compound used in some Trane heating and cooling systems. Lithium nitrate is used as a corrosion inhibitor and heat transfer medium in absorption chillers. In this closed-loop process, these chillers use a refrigerant that absorbs heat to make cool air. This cycle is dependent on lithium nitrate. The addition of lithium nitrate prevents internal chiller corrosion by creating a Protective Layer to prevent metal from reacting with the chiller’s working fluid. As a result, the chiller life is extended and the efficiency is maintained. The heat is taken from the environment around the solution.
