The Trane SEN1369 is a black ambient temperature sensor that is part of the Trane HVAC systems. It measures changes in ambient air temperature and changes it to the changes in electrical resistance. The sensor has a resistance of 9.75 k ohms at 75 degrees Fahrenheit. As the temperature increases, the resistance decreases as well. It is necessary for controlling the HVAC function because it provides the control board with precise temperature information. This data is used then by the control board to adjust the output of the heating or cooling system.
