The ABB PSR25-600-70 soft starter is intended to alleviate the mechanical stress and electrical strain exerted on motors during startup and shutdown. It does this by gradually raising the voltage applied to the motor rather than giving it all of its power at once. Soft starting decreases wear and tear on linked equipment, lowers energy consumption, and increases the motor's duration  Although the PSR25-600-70 can be used in a variety of applications, it works especially well to regulate smaller motors in HVAC equipment, such as the ones found in fans, pumps, compressors, and conveyors. Due to their frequent on-off cycles, these motors are vulnerable to the drawbacks of conventional full-voltage starting.
