The Conbraco Industries 19-KJHA-150 is a 2.5-inch, 150-pound steam trap intended for use in HVAC systems. This keeps live steam from escaping while allowing condensate—liquid water made from steam—to drain from steam pipes. In addition to preventing damage from trapped condensate, which can result in corrosion and decreased heat transfer, this helps preserve system efficiency. A bimetallic element, used in the 19-KJHA-150, expands and contracts in response to temperature variations. When condensate is present, the element contracts due to the lower temperature, which opens a valve and lets the condensate drain. The element expands due to the increased temperature as steam enters the trap, shutting the valve and halting steam loss.
