The Watts 0960256 Reduced Pressure Zone Backflow Preventer Assembly is essential in HVAC systems to safeguard potable water systems. It is meant to prevent pollution of drinking water. This part uses two self-acting check valves which prevent the flow of potentially water that is contaminated back into the water supply. The check valve opens when water flows normally through the RPZ and water can flow through it. The check valve remains closed. When a backflow condition is present, both check valves close, develop a region of sub-atmospheric pressure between them. This reduced pressure zone physically isolates the potable water supply from the contaminated water supply preventing the backflow.
