Trane RES0171 Thermistor Ambient Sensor

The Trane RES0171 is a Thermistor Ambient Sensor, a tiny but essentialpart of the Trane HVAC systems intended for providing the most comfortable climate. This sensor measures 0.5” high, 10” long, and 3.0” wide but plays a crucial role in the smooth operation of the device. The sensor employs a thermistor – a resistor that has its resistance dependent on the temperature. The temperature of the air surrounding the system transmits data to the Trane HVAC control system. With this knowledge, the system can control many aspects including the fan speed and the compressor to keep a constant and comfortable temperature.
