The Rheem-Ruud SP15129 Flame Sensor is safety device that is used to monitor and control the operation of HVAC systems that use gas as fuel. In other words, the burner assembly’s flame is sensed by the flame sensor for the latter to operate. It generates a small electrical signal when it is working and this is in response to heat from the flame. To avoid some hazards, for instance, leakage of gas or dangerous conditions of combustion, the sensor detects a lack of signal if the flame is extinguished or does not ignite at all.
