The Laars Heating Systems R0457502 Hot Surface Igniter Natural Gas is used in the ignition of the burner in some categories of gas-fired heating systems, especially the boilers and furnaces. This type of igniter consists of ceramic components that can be easily heated through current passing through it. It makes contact with hot surface of the igniter thereby causing the gas to burn. This process is slightly more reliable of traditional pilot lights as it does not continuously burn a pilot flame conserving a lot of energy. Hot surface igniters are also long lasting and can rarely require replacement as compared to other types of igniters.
