The Xylem-Hoffman Specialty 401638 Ft030H-6, also called a Float & Thermostatic trap, is a 1.5-inch-diameter device used in HVAC systems to prevent backflow and air penetration. It combines the capabilities of a thermostatic trap with a float trap. To prevent backups in the drain line, the float trap automatically cuts off the drain line when the water level reaches a certain point using a buoyant mechanism. Warm room air cannot escape through the drain line because the thermostatic trap uses a temperature-sensitive device to seal the trap during inactive heating periods. The trap not only minimizes heat loss and guarantees appropriate drainage but also prevents backflow and air penetration, which can result in lower energy costs and enhanced system performance.
