The Trane EXC1156 is an essentialpart of the Trane furnaces which is a heat exchanger. This heat exchanger is a metal container whose function is to transfer heat from one fluid to another. In the course of furnace operation, heated combustion gases pass through one series of tubes in the exchanger. At the same time, air from your home is passed through other pipes that are around the hot gas tubes. The heat from the combustion gases transfer through the metal walls and so heats the air surrounding the walls.
