The Copeland Comfort Control (Alco) 055187 5.5-Ton Thermal Expansion Valve (TXV) meters liquid refrigerant into higher-capacity 5.5-ton evaporator coils operating on R-22 or R-407C. Installed by using 1/2-inch inlet and 7/8-inch outlet ODF connections in HVAC systems, it uses a 5-foot capillary tube attached to a remote sensing bulb for continuous thermal response. The expanding or contracting bulb charge modulates an internal pin mechanism to open or narrow the expansion orifice. Adjusting liquid flow maintains precise superheat control, balances refrigerant distribution across large coils, and supports efficient refrigeration cycle operation under heavy cooling requirements.
