The Copeland 998-1000-52 Discharge Temperature Control Valve and Thermostat Kit by injecting liquid refrigerant back into the compressor housing, it regulates the temperature of the discharged refrigerant gas. This prevents unsafe discharge temperatures that can cause compressor failure and system shut down. A thermistor senses changes in temperature and therefore responds to them by making a valve open when the optimum discharge temperature is reached or exceeded. This allows a liquid refrigerant to return to the compressor, thereby cooling down the compressed gas and preventing overheating. The kit also contains a thermostat which determines at what point the valve will work based on prescribed temperature conditions.
