Copeland 940-0140-08 Potential Relay

The Copeland 940-0140-08 Potential Relay is considered one of the major components of HVAC. It works to operate the start-up cycle of the compressor. At 290 VAC, this part is essential for proper start-up of the compressor motor. The potential relay acts to measure the voltage across the start winding of the compressor motor. The relay closes at pick-up voltages and provides extra voltage to the start winding when the supply voltage falls within the range of its pick-up voltages of 340-360 VAC. This is to overcome the inertia at the start and to achieve a smooth start of the compressor. When the compressor starts running, the relay opens up, hence the start winding is taken out of the circuit. It has wide applications in areas of refrigeration and air conditioning systems to ensure greater reliability in compressors.
