The Trane VAL8616 is a 2.5-ton thermal expansion valve (TXV) for use in HVAC systems using R-22 refrigerant. It also is essential to control the flow of refrigerant through the system. Think of it as an automatic dispenser that keeps enough refrigerant going to the coil in the cooling unit. The TXV controls flow of refrigerant by modifying a valve’s opening through temperature and pressure monitoring.
