The Trane COM6221 Compressor is a giant for large commercial and industrial cooling with a large tonnage capacity but uses R-22 refrigerant. This Trane workhorse is not a conventional piston compressor; instead, it uses a scroll system for its operation. Two intertwined scrolls inside the sealed housing work like a high-speed pump and compress the refrigerant gas. This design translates to a hefty 4.6-ton capacity (roughly 55,000 BTUH), which is perfect for dealing with high cooling loads in large spaces. Brazed stub tubes are leak-proof for circulation of refrigerant because of the mineral oil used for this purpose.
