The Trane VAL9588 is a thermostatic expansion valve for use in high-capacity R410A HVAC systems that require accurate refrigerant control. The thermostatic actuator of the TXV detects temperature changes in the evaporator coil. With this information, the outside diameter flare connectors on the valve precisely control the amount of R410A refrigerant entering the coil. An underfilled coil reduces cooling efficiency and an overfilled coil can damage the compressor. The Trane features a 15% bleed design which permits a tiny volume of refrigerant to always leak through the valve even when the system isn’t actively cooling. It helps prevent pressure spikes and that will continue to run smoothly.
