Trane CNT1760 Defrost Contactor is designed for use in HVAC systems and is instrumental to the defrosting of the system circuits. It is a single pole single throw relay normally meant for evaporator coils only. Evaporator coils in this case is supposed to draw heat from the air within the building and transfer this heat to the refrigerant. This is where the defrost contactor comes in This is where the defrost contactor comes in. When the excess frost is formed, the contactor turns on and makes an electric current to reach the defrost heaters placed at the coil. Defrost heaters help make the ice melt, so the evaporator coil does not hamper the heat transfer and thus works effectively in maintaining the right temperature of your HVAC.
